Technical Operations

Welcome to the IEEE Systems Council Technical Operations

IEEE Systems Council offers opportunities for members to participate in Technical Committees in several technical fields-of-interest related to Systems Engineering. The Technical Committees hold meetings throughout the world, typically where conferences relevant to their technical interests are taking place. The creation of IEEE standards and the support of IEEE conferences are also major objectives of Technical Committees. Please contact the Technical Committee chairs if you are interested in participating in the work of a Technical Committee.

Technical Communities

The IEEE Systems Council welcomes the members of the scientific and professional community, who are interested in the technical field of the Council, to join one or more of the Systems Council Technical Communities. These Technical Communities are the group where people have the opportunity of interacting and networking, sharing ideas, creating new technical activities, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and advancing practice, supporting the IEEE Systems Council conferences and publications, promoting IEEE Standards, and much more. The activities of the Technical Communities are coordinated and managed by the respective IEEE Systems Council Technical Committee.

Biography

Stephen M. Holt received his B.S. in Mathematical Physics from Wilmington College (Wilmington, Ohio, USA), and his B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Franklin University (Columbus, Ohio. USA). He also completed his M.S. in Engineering (with an emphasis in Ocean Engineering and Underwater Acoustics) from The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC, USA) and Graduate Certificates in Engineering Management from The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC, USA) and Project Management from The George Mason University (Fairfax, Virginia, USA).

Steve is currently employed with KBR, Inc. of Greenbelt, Maryland, USA as a Senior Systems Engineer supporting the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He has also supported the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) with many meteorological and oceanic programs. He joined the IEEE in 2000 and was later elected to the grade of Senior Member to the IEEE in 2001. He is also a long-standing member of the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) and the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS). Steve was the elected member to the OES Executive Committee as its Secretary for ten years (2001-2010). In 2007, he was awarded the IEEE OES Distinguished Service Award (DSA).

His technical interests include spacecraft systems engineering, optical systems engineering, as well as remote sensing of the atmosphere and oceanic environments. He has completed a nine-year work effort on the recently deployed NASA James Webb Space Telescope and is presently working on the NASA ILLUMA-T infrared optical laser communications program.
