Impact of Generative AI in Systems Engineering

The release of Chat-GPT3 in November of 2022 marked the beginning of a new age of systems engineering. Chat-GPT is based on generative AI, a technology that creates knowledge artifacts not simply aided knowledge recovery or decision support. While the technology is in it’s infancy, there is already work that explores using it for requirements engineering and design. This talk will give an overview of the Generative AI, discuss how it is already changing systems engineering, look at possible futures, and issue a few cautionary notes about premature wholesale adoption.
