Abstract

Developing complex products suffers high overrun costs and significant delays more and more today, especially in aerospace industry. It is often due to early stage architecture design issues that causes a large amount of rework when facing changes in later stages, which almost always happen in aerospace and defense domains. On the other hand, over design requires significant upfront cost that enterprises usually attempt to avoid. This lecture talks about how to turn this engineering practice into a science, and achieve the a sustainable architecture design analytically. It is a major developed result in this area in recent years and also being used in industry. This framework includes theory, methods and processes. The talk also covers design examples on aircraft engines as well as HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems.
