Event Report: IEEE Education Week Celebrations | Fireside Chat: AI for Good
The Women Education & Empowerment Subcommittee of the IEEE Systems Council successfully organized an engaging and insightful Fireside Chat on the theme “AI for Good” as part of the IEEE Education Week celebrations on April 19, 2026, through the Google Meet platform.
The session featured Mei Lin Fung, Co-Founder of the Nehitek Foundation, as the distinguished speaker. The event was moderated by Harivardhagini Subhadra, Chair of the Women Education & Empowerment Subcommittee, IEEE Systems Council.
The webinar brought together students, researchers, educators, and professionals from various regions to explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence in addressing societal challenges and promoting sustainable development. The session aligned strongly with IEEE’s vision of “Advancing Technology for Humanity” by emphasizing the role of AI in creating inclusive, ethical, and people-centered technological solutions.
During the fireside chat, Mei Lin Fung shared valuable insights from her extensive global experience in digital transformation, humanitarian technology, healthcare systems, and the digital economy. She highlighted how AI can be leveraged responsibly to improve education, healthcare accessibility, community empowerment, and global collaboration. She also emphasized the importance of human-centered innovation, ethical AI frameworks, and interdisciplinary cooperation in shaping the future of technology.
The discussion further explored the role of education and knowledge sharing in preparing future generations to use AI responsibly and effectively for social good. The event commenced with a warm welcome address and an introduction to the council’s initiatives by Andy Chen, President of the IEEE Systems Council, followed by an engaging fireside discussion and an interactive Q&A session where participants actively interacted with the speaker. The session concluded with an address by Sanjeevikumar Padmanaban, Vice President of the Education Committee, IEEE Systems Council, and a heartfelt vote of thanks expressing gratitude to the speaker, attendees, and organizing team for making the event successful.
