Description

The scholarship recognizes graduate students pursuing higher education in any Engineering discipline.

Prize

Up to two prizes/awards may be given annually consisting of 10000 USD and a certificate for each awardee. Honorariums will not be split. Funds will be paid to the school on behalf of the student. The scholarship funds are to be applied to the student’s balance including tuition, room and board, or other associated fees related to the student’s attendance.

Each awardee may receive up to 1000 USD in reimbursement to be paid directly to the student to cover costs related to traveling to a Systems Council-sponsored conference to receive the award. These funds may be approved by the President.

Funding

This award is funded by the IEEE Systems Council.

Presentation

The award will be presented at a conference sponsored by the IEEE Systems Council.

Basis for Judging

Evaluations will be based on the application and stated financial need. The application shall include an essay on why their engineering field of study is important and how the applicant could have an impact in their fields. At least three letters of recommendation shall be provided, two of which shall be from current or former university professors who taught the applicant or know them personally.

Eligibility

IEEE student members pursuing an advanced degree in Engineering from an accredited university and a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.8 (out of 4) or above, or equivalent measure of academic performance where GPA is not utilized. There is no minimum number of years for membership required. No immediate family members of current members of the IEEE Board of Directors, the IEEE Systems Council Governing Board, the IEEE Systems Council Scholarship Committee, or IEEE staff may be candidates, nominate, or endorse candidates for this scholarship.

Eligibility and Selection process shall comply with procedures and regulation established in IEEE and Society/Council governing documents, particularly with IEEE Policy 4.4 on Awards Limitations. Previous award winners are not eligible for substantially the same achievements (per IEEE Policies 4.4: An individual shall receive only one award for a given achievement, unless the significance merits a higher award, which may be given in the following year or thereafter.)
