Dear All,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share some highlights and exciting developments within the IEEE Systems Council from the beginning of this year.

The months of January and February have been exceptionally busy for our Officers and Committee Chairs as they prioritize and plan their activities and major events for the year. In February, we held a two-day retreat filled with strategic planning, team-building, and collaborative efforts to set the stage for an exciting year ahead. We also invited volunteer leaders from the IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB) to explore various opportunities for collaboration.

During the February TAB meetings, the IEEE Systems Council organized an event to host our member society's presidents. It was an evening of insightful conversations, strengthening connections, and celebrating our shared commitment to excellence.

We have also made concerted efforts to recruit distinguished and experienced volunteers to support our priority areas. I am pleased to announce several significant initiatives and appointments:

  • Loretta Arellano will lead the efforts to organize the IEEE Systems Council’s 20th Anniversary celebrations and the global chapter chairs summit, which will be co-located with the IEEE RASSE 2025 in Singapore in November 2025.

  • Establishment of a new Public Policy Adhoc Committee (PPAC) for the IEEE Systems Council. The newly formed PPAC will be chaired by Andre Oboler, who is currently the VP of Technical Activities and an active member of the IEEE Global Policy Caucus (GPC).

  • Dr. Shiyan Hu will serve as the Deputy VP of Technical Activities. Dr. Hu is currently the Chair of the Cyber Physical Systems Technical Committee and previously served as VP of Technical Activities for IEEE TEMS from 2020 to 2024.

  • Usman Munawar has been appointed as the IEEE Systems Council's Award Chair for 2025. Usman brings a wealth of experience from his time on the Award Committee for Region 7.

Our first opportunity to gather our global community members is fast approaching. The 18th edition of the IEEE Systems Council will take place in Montreal, Canada, from April 7 to 10, 2025. We hope to see you all there. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our shared mission. Together, we are making great strides in advancing the field of systems engineering and technology.

Warm regards,

Andy Chen, IEEE Systems Council President
