Navigating Complexity: MBSE & AI
Presentation Menu
This talk explores the challenges posed by modern complex engineered systems and presents the convergence of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a transformative approach to address these challenges. Today’s engineered systems—ranging from autonomous vehicles and aerospace platforms to smart cities and national digital infrastructures—operate as interconnected, data‑driven ecosystems spanning physical, digital, cyber, and social domains. Conventional approaches are increasingly inadequate for managing nonlinear interactions, emergent behavior, and rapidly evolving requirements. The convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) offers a compelling path forward, enabling both deeper insight into complexity and more disciplined, scalable engineering practices. This talk provides an overview of the nature of complexity in systems, case studies of complex system failures, introductions to AI and MBSE, their integration, and future directions for research and practice.
