Avoiding Systems Engineering Decision Traps in an Era of AI
Presentation Menu
The need to make not only sound strategic decisions within an organization, but also ethical decisions is imperative in today’s globally connected environment that now features widely available tools from artificial intelligence (AI). However, many organizations have unanswered questions about how to build a systematic capability that (i) enables quality decision-making within a group, (ii) that leverages AI into the decision-making, and (iii) that simultaneously provides an ethical assessment of the decision. The results of this talk emerged from a scan of thousands of media articles related to decision making in large systems that identified eleven factors that repeatedly impeded the quality of decisions. Further, these impediments would be replicated by relying solely on AI. This talk will discuss methods (i) eleven pitfalls in decision making in large systems, (ii) how to incorporate artificial intelligence into the decision making, and (iii) how to build an ethical decision culture within an organization.
