Systems Council Newsletter: Q3 2025 President's Message
It has now been three months since my last message, and I am pleased to share significant progress at SYSC. During this period, our committees finalized an updated governance structure. Some committees previously lacked clear mandates, leading to overlapping responsibilities and inefficiencies.
To resolve this, the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, under the leadership of Joanne Wong, created a new governance framework and proposed updates to our Bylaws that better address our operational needs. In August, AdCom approved motions to implement these changes, resulting in a streamlined structure and modernized bylaws.
A major outcome is the establishment of a new standing committee focused on Standards, to be chaired by Richard Hiliard. These enhancements will enable SYSC to serve its mission with increased clarity and efficiency.
We are also excited to announce that two additional IEEE Societies are in the process of joining our community. The IEEE Photonics Society and the IEEE Solid State Circuits Society are now in the final stages of approval from their respective AdComs to become membership societies within the Systems Council.
Looking forward, the IEEE Canadian Students and Young Professionals Congress 2025 is scheduled to take place in Toronto from September 12–14. This significant event will convene more than 180 students and young engineers representing 22 sections and 57 branches nationwide. The congress is organised by Usman Munawar, Award Chair, with support from Dr. Prasanta Ghosh, Student Chapter Chair, and Chamika Sudusinghe, Young Professional Chair. The Systems Council serves as the gold sponsor for the event.
The 11th IEEE International Symposium on Systems Engineering (ISSE) is set to take place from October 28-30, 2025, in Paris, France. This symposium is designed to offer an interactive forum for advancing the practice of systems engineering across the many disciplines and specialties involved in complex systems. We have seen tremendous interest, and registration is now open.
Finally, 2025 marks a milestone year for the IEEE Systems Council as we celebrate our 20th anniversary since launching in 2005. Join us for a remarkable celebration at IEEE RASSE 2025 (RASSE25), where the global IEEE community will gather to honour two decades of innovation in systems engineering and to explore the future of complex systems. Festivities will culminate at the official anniversary gala during the RASSE25 Conference, followed by the vibrant annual Systems Council Chapter Summit. Distinguished IEEE leaders have confirmed their attendance, ensuring these events will be truly memorable.
As we reflect on our progress and prepare for the exciting future ahead, I want to express my gratitude to each member of our community for your dedication, vision, and enthusiasm. Your commitment fuels our success and shapes the vibrant future of the IEEE Systems Council. Together, let us continue to innovate, collaborate, and elevate the field of systems engineering for the benefit of all. I look forward to celebrating these achievements with you in the coming months.
