Approved on 18 January 2026 (Identification Code: CH08545), the IEEE Systems Council Subsections of Africa Chapter is a regional unit of the IEEE Systems Council dedicated to advancing systems engineering, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technology-driven development across Tanzania and the wider African subsections. The Chapter provides a collaborative platform for professionals, researchers, students, and industry practitioners working across systems engineering, modeling and simulation, system integration, safety and resilience, requirements management, systems architecture, program and project management, and emerging technologies such as AI-enabled systems. Our mission is to build a strong and inclusive systems engineering community that promotes knowledge sharing, professional growth, and practical innovation aligned with Africa’s development priorities. The Chapter aims to increase awareness of systems thinking, support students and early-career professionals, strengthen university–industry partnerships, and connect African engineers with global IEEE initiatives.
The establishment of the Chapter was spearheaded by Dr. Dennis N. Mwighusa, former IEEE Chairman for the Tanzania Subsection (2021–2025) and Senior Member of IEEE. Driven by a deep passion for capacity building and technological empowerment, Dr. Mwighusa has served IEEE in multiple roles locally, regionally, and globally. His vision is to ensure Tanzania and Africa play an active role in shaping future technologies by nurturing talent, fostering collaboration, and translating systems engineering principles into real societal impact. The IEEE Systems Council Subsections of Africa Chapter serves as a hub for synergy among academia, industry, and government supporting continuous learning, innovation, and the development of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive technological systems across the region.
