Kulunu Weerasoory is a doctoral researcher focused on lower-limb prosthetic systems, particularly the design of hybrid-powered prosthetic knees that combine mechanical optimization, dynamic modeling, and control engineering. His work aims to develop energy-efficient, adaptive solutions that improve mobility and functional outcomes for individuals with limb loss, especially in resource-limited settings.

His research encompasses system-level design, simulation, and experimental validation to enhance the stability, performance, and accessibility of next-generation prosthetic devices. He is especially driven to bridge the gap in assistive technologies in developing regions by creating practical, scalable engineering solutions.

Beyond his research, Kulunu actively contributes to the engineering community through professional engagement and leadership. He currently serves as the Chair of IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka (2026), where he leads initiatives focused on empowering young engineers, fostering industry–academia collaboration, organizing impactful national-level programs, and creating platforms for professional growth and innovation within the engineering community.
