Dr. Bapiraju Surampudi received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The Texas A & M University in 1995. He also has a M. Tech., in Mechanical Engineering, from The Indian Institute of Technology, India as well as a B.E., Mechanical Engineering, from NIT Surathkal, India. He is an Institute Engineer with the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio, Texas. His experience includes mathematical modeling, hardware in the loop testing, communication and control system development for conventional and electrified vehicle components and powertrains. He built and led a EVESE/EssEs battery consortium over the last decade.  Specifically, his experience spans energy storage systems, engines, transmissions, automotive accessories, hybrid, electric commercial and military vehicles. Dr. Surampudi is also a Member of both the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
