Networked Systems will unite scientists and engineers with the purpose of gaining a better understanding of how various types of networked systems might be better architected, designed and developed. These improvements are expected to come through the application of theories, principles, and specific knowledge obtained from the field of network science. The committee will focus on discerning the impact of various forms of networked systems throughout the world including those created by humans (e.g., information, logistics) and those found in nature (e.g., biological swarms, communal ecosystems). Emphasis will be placed on understanding and adapting techniques, methods, and models derived from the field of network science to address issues with modern networked systems and improving upon the design of such systems.
